keratin protein science, AgResearch has
world class expertise in natural fibre
manipulation and product development,
which provides the expertise for textile
preform manufacture for biocomposites.
In addition AgResearch has substantial
capability in the production of high value
products from protein biopolymers,
having created the commercial
production process for its
Keratec Ltd spin-off.

Crop & Food Research is a New Zealand based
biological science company that
carries out both government-funded
research and work for commercial
clients. Its research is organised under
five Centres of Innovation which build
on its expertise in arable, vegetable,
ornamental and seafood raw materials.
One of its Centres of Innovation focuses
on biopolymers and biomaterials: in
this area the company is developing
leading edge capabilities in the synthesis
and application of new biopolymers
with potential in cosmetics, medicines,
adhesives, new industrial materials,
advanced food materials, bioplastics
and bioactive packaging.

Formerly known as Forest Research,
Scion is a New Zealand Crown Research
Institute focused on applying a deep
knowledge of plantation forestry, wood
products and processing, and of fibre
products such as paper and MDF, to the
development of new biomaterials from
renewable plant resources.
Scion’s international expertise in fibre
refining, wood and fibre processing, and
engineering, together with significant
polymer science capabilities (for example
in resin formulations for adhesives and
coatings and in the processing and
formulation of plastics and composite
materials) are now being applied
to innovative bio-plastic and
biocomposite products.
