Oat Starch

Product Specification

Description

BPN oat starch is an all natural product extracted from oat flour using a proprietary water-based process. Oat starch granules (3 - 10 micron) and can be used in a range of non-food and food applications.

Applications

Popular as an ingredient in cosmetics and toiletries due to high β-Glucan content associated with super moisturising and skin healing properties. Oat starch is a beneficial replacement for talcum powder due to smoothness and anti-irritant properties.

Figure 2: SEM of Oat starch extracted by BPN proprietary process
Oat starch extracted by the new BPN method delivers high starch yields with a peak viscosity of typically around 3462 cP. Starches extracted by acid and alkali showed lower peak viscosity of 3424 cP and 3386 cP respectively, whereas starch from the solvent extraction has a much lower peak viscosity of 2850 cP. Starch produced by SDS extraction showed a higher peak viscosity of 3640 cP, which could be due to the presence of SDS in the starch, which could not be washed out completely.
